What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
In 2005, as a Miami Dolphins Cheerleader, I was given the opportunity to travel with the USO to visit our troops overseas with stops to include U.S. bases in Bosnia and Kosovo. The twenty ladies who were chosen to go prepared for months on end for this trip. Two weeks prior to the scheduled departure, the Government canceled the visit, stating it was unsafe for us to travel because two Apache helicopters were just shot down in the area where we were supposed to perform in. Later that week, the Government lifted the ban on travel stating that it was our decision if we still wanted to go. After given the option, out of the twenty young women who were originally invited, I am proud to say I was one of the eleven women who decided to go. Although we stayed on the base which was dubbed “Sniper Alley,” we traveled in the same type of Apache helicopters that had recently been shot down, and we were greeted with bullet holes in the building in which we stayed, I felt in my heart that I made the right decision to go. I cannot express the joy and gratitude I felt to be able to personally thank the heroes that fight for our country each and every day. In May of last year, I broke into the 9-billion-dollar a year, male-dominated lighting industry. As a woman emerging onto the scene, I had to work hard to prove my knowledge and my worth to my clients. Now almost a year later, I am one of the top producers in my company. Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a State Titleholder) that makes you especially proud. My work as a humanitarian with the USO. I have served on four handshake and performance USO tours around the world. I think as Americans, we often take our liberties for granted and forget why we have them. For me, it is important to give back to our unsung heroes overseas. What a rewarding and humbling experience it is to have a solider say "thank you" when all the while you are trying to thank them for protecting those liberties. Spinning Fishing Fashion Four Wheeling Traveling Skiing Ocean Kayaking Boating Football What is the most important thing you want the judges to know about you? In 2003 my life changed. I had just started my educational journey when my father fell ill with cancer. After only two semesters at school I made a conscious decision to take time out from textbooks for some real-life education. My family needed me. I helped my family finically and spiritually through my father's hospital stays and chemotherapy treatments. In those 2 years, I learned more about myself and life than I could have ever learned in a classroom. I am a stronger person for the experiences I have encountered in my life. Thus, I hope you can see past the glitz and glamour of this pageant and get to know me for Ren. The fun-loving, compassionate, tenacious and courageous women that I am. |
