What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
In early February, I plunged into freezing lake water, as part of the “Polar Bear Plunge” fundraiser, to support the Special Olympics. Minnesota is notorious for having incredibly cold winters. The only thing crazier than jumping in once was jumping in a SECOND time! I never would have done a crazy thing like that if it didn’t benefit a good cause!

What are your strongest talents?
I have always been proud of my writing skills. I was given a lot of opportunities to write for the news show I was a part of during high school, and it has helped me succeed at the School of Journalism at the University of Minnesota. I feel that my thorough understanding of language has helped me excel in foreign languages throughout my education as well.

Name one personal accomplishment (in addition to being a State Titleholder) that makes you especially proud.
I was chosen to be one of the publicized “faces” for the “Dining Out For Life” fundraiser which helped to increase funds and awareness of HIV/AIDS causes as part of the Aliveness Project. I was able to help promote the event and also gave my time during the actual event.

What is the most important thing you want the judges to know about you?
I try every day to live up to my historical name; “Unverzagt” is actually listed and defined in the Old German dictionary – and means undaunted and courageous. “Never give up!” that’s a lot to live up to every day!
